I guess one of the few good points of quarantine is that everyone’s spending more time on social media, whether that’s on existing platforms like Instagram and TikTok, or new ones such as Spoon (a live and recorded podcast platform). Since we were all told to self isolate, I’ve created a TikTok account I’ve been posting to daily, along with researching other up and coming platforms to join to create content on.
What I’ve found, is that although it’s an awful lot of effort to keep loads of different social media accounts on different platforms up to date with posts and cross-referencing them, it really is worth it. The more people you can reach on different platforms, the more people will find your other social media accounts and potentially follow you on their too.
I guess one thing to remember, me included, is to provide variation on your different social media platforms. If you post the same thing on everything, then people would have no reason to go onto other platforms as there would be no new content there. I definitely need to provide more variation, and I really am working on that one currently, taking loads more photos, and reaching into video and podcast content as that seems to be something a lot of my followers have been asking for recently.
I’m also going to be starting to do Instagram Live Streams soon, about one a week, so that my personality comes across a bit more. It’s hard to get across what you’re really like on social media just through photos and captions as things can easily be taken the wrong way, or not how you intended them to be.
