I never thought that getting a new haircut would make such a difference in how I felt with myself and where I was in life. I went into Steven and Laurent nervous, and came out feeling so much more confident and better mentally, even if it was just for a short while.
Ever since I was about 13 I’ve always had really long hair. I got it chopped into a very short shoulder length bob when I was 11, and thinking back on it, I didn’t like it either. It definitely didn’t suit 11 year old Olivia. Since then, I’ve always just grown my hair out and occasionally had it trimmed by my Mum (who always did a very good job at it might I add). It got to the point where I was like, I need a change and I want it done professionally in fear that it could go terribly wrong.
My hair is so much easier now to maintain too. The ends definitely feel a whole lot healthier and more voluminous. When it’s dried (I nearly always let it dry naturally), it’s got more of a wave to it and doesn’t really need much doing to it besides maybe adding in some beach style waves spray to add a bit of texture. Curling it also takes about 10 minutes, compared to the at least half an hour it used to take me when I had an extra 8 inches of hair attached to my head.
Funnily enough, getting a haircut had such a boost on my mental state, and made my feel much more good in myself. I walked out of Steven and Laurent confident and with a tad more sass. (Which is never a bad thing!) I think because it’s such a drastic change, it can really add that something that just transforms your look, changing you into a slightly different person, looks-wise and mentally.
If you’re umming and aahing about whether to go and get that big change in a haircut, I’d say go for it! There’s no point debating it - if you don’t like it, it will grow back anyway! If you’re looking for a good hairdresser in the Devon area, I would strongly suggest Steven and Laurent in Bideford. They do an amazing job!!
